Since 1989, JP Associates, Inc. has partnered with schools and districts across the country to provide intensive professional development for scientifically-based reading programs (such as Direct Instruction) and teaching across content areas, classroom management, and the development of school-based teacher leaders and coaches. JP's staff of highly experienced and expertly trained School Improvement Specialists has worked with a wide range of schools to develop internal capacity for ongoing, site-based professional development that directly impacts student learning.
This experience coupled with strong, evidence based research on what works has been used to develop the JP Domains. They are a direct response to the needs and requests from schools in the field. They are designed to both provide structure and clarity while at the same time affording the flexibility so each professional development plan is customized to meet your specific needs. Supported by onsite, job-embedded coaching by experienced and proven School Improvement Specialists, they ensure that your students gains are long lasting and consistent. JP’s RESPONSIVE approach ensures that your staff receives the RIGHT intensive training for their situation and current skill level.
JP’s Responsive Professional Development Model™ is delivered across several Domains:
JP brings together several critical factors in the development of an effective school. These factors when woven together in a structured, systematic way create a strong foundation for academic acceleration and achievement.
JP has developed a series of strategies that help principals, coaches and teachers establish concrete objectives, identify data that lets staff know if those objectives are being achieved and helps instructional staff manage and analyze data so it can be used to improve instruction and increase student achievement.
Whether the focus of the instructional program is reading, mathematics, science, or history, a well-designed curriculum is critical to academic achievement and acceleration. JP Associates provides program-specific training for a variety of research- and evidence-based instructional curricula as well as Responsive Staff Development that is designed to improve the results schools achieve with instructional materials that require additional engineering.
The role of the leader in education has both evolved and grown over the last several years. Research indicates that the teacher is the most important factor in the classroom and the principal (and leadership team) is the most important factor affecting the school. The JP Leadership Domain is designed to assist school and district leaders in creating an interactive climate in which strong leadership and effective teaching are bound together by a common understanding and acceptance of their mission and vision. The result is increased student achievement and a successful school. In today’s schools, effective principals need to perform multiple functions to ensure their schools reach their potential in providing quality instruction and increasing student achievement.
JP has developed a series of interactive workshops coupled with side by side coaching to help administrators and teachers become acquainted with the Common Core Standards, how they align to your schools curricula and what that will mean to them and their students. Training focuses on articulating the need and process for differentiation, developing tiered lesson plans, analyzing the value of assessment in determining next steps for instruction and identifying resources to make curriculum accessible.
…[R]esearchers found that when teachers combined participation in the traditional workshops with peer coaching or methodologies that promoted collaboration and reflection, more than 80% of teachers were using newly learned strategies in their classrooms.” (Joyce and Showers, 1996; Joyce, Murphy and Showers 1996; Richardson 1999)
JP works with your school to implement a structured and highly effective coaching strategy that identifies and addresses the needs of your students and teachers. Our onsite side by side coaching improves practices in your school, increases teachers’ instructional skills, addresses the needs of individual students and improves student performance. Coaching is integrated throughout all of the services listed below.
JP works with partner schools providing training (geared to both teachers and administrators) on how to ameliorate teacher weaknesses brought to light through the process of teacher evaluation. The training assists principals to more effectively utilize teacher evaluation systems and design needed staff professional development. Participants learn a three pronged approach consisting of a pre-conference (informing the teacher of the process), observation (use of a rubric such as Danielson Framework for Teaching) and post conference (Development of a plan for teacher improvement).
As the number of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder continues to climb, the relative number of teachers and paraprofessionals in general education classes prepared to improve the education of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder declines.
JP Associates, in conjunction with Putnam County, TN educators, enable teachers to improve the social life and academic performance of students with autism. JP's interactive training and in-classroom coaching professional development program, Improving the Development and Education of Autistic Students (IDEAS) makes that possible.
These JP Domains are the foundation of effective, responsive schools. Strengthening that foundation through intensive and ongoing professional development is the key to building internal capacity, improving teacher quality and impacting student performance. In today’s educational climate, there isn’t time or money for taking a risk on ineffective, inefficient, "fuzzy" approaches to improving teacher quality in the classroom. You’ve already tried it and you know the results. You don’t have time to waste. It’s time for Responsive Professional Development™.
