Curriculum

Placing the right tools in the hands of skilled and supported teachers ensures that school reform efforts will reach their full potential.

Whether the focus of the instructional program is reading, mathematics, science, or history, a well-designed curriculum is critical to academic achievement and acceleration. Well designed instructional programs share some common traits, regardless of content area or subject. These traits include:

  • A focus on acquisition of critical skills and content.
  • Logical and sequential teaching of skills and content.
  • A well-defined process for skill and content acquisition that includes:
    • Modeling
    • Guided practice with frequent feedback
    • Independent practice
    • Application

In addition to the presence of these critical traits, highly effective instructional programs will have research to back up their effectiveness. In other words, the programs will not only be RESEARCH-based, they will be EVIDENCE-based.

JP Associates provides program-specific training for a variety of research- and evidence-based instructional curricula as well as Responsive Staff Development that is designed to improve the results schools achieve with instructional materials that require additional engineering.
