Workshops & Trainings

School improvement and school reform is not solely restricted to the academic domain. If a positive school culture that values learning and mutual respect can be established, there exists the potential for truly dramatic gains. That's why building a Positive School Culture is part of the Responsive Professional Development Model.

JP Associates training in creating and maintaining a Positive School Culture takes two distinct but intertwined paths:

  • Creating a Positive School Culture among school staff
  • Creating a Positive School Culture among students

The first approach, focusing on staff interactions, expectations, and direct interaction impacts the overall effectiveness of the school, particularly in the case of schools serving students in poverty. According to Wheelan and Kesselring (2005), "the manner in which faculty members work together is influential."(pg. 329).

Student interactions are also critically important in maintaining a Positive School Culture. As the staff work toward a unified vision and purpose, structures must be put in place to support and nourish positive social interactions, behavioral expectations, and academic achievement between students and teachers.
