A picture is worth a thousand words-so a video must be worth thousands of words! We think
a good way to introduce you to what JP does is to show you. The first part of the video you
are about to view is a 6 minute segment of a 60 minute video entitled High Quality Vocabulary
Development in the Classroom. This is 1 video in a set of 3 designed to present practical and
evidenced based strategies to teachers. Just as importantly, they are immediately transferrable
to classroom use.
The other 2 videos in this series are Strategies that Allow Students to Visualize and Verbalize
Thinking and Increasing Rigor in Questioning to Promote Higher Order Thinking Skills. This
particular 3 tape series addresses the critical common core standard for our students being able to respond to rigorous questioning in literature
and non-fictional material.
The second section of our video demonstrates JP’s Responsive Coaching model. This is a 5 minute snippet of a 45 minute
classroom coaching session. As Joyce and Stallings research strongly indicates, pre-service
is not the essential element in increasing the effectiveness of teachers’ skills. Often teachers
finish a professional development session, go back to the classroom, and never attempt to
use any of the strategies they just learned. Effective and consistent side by side classroom
coaching is absolutely the key ingredient in ensuring that teachers are transferring their newly
acquired skills in the most effective way for the students in that particular class. JP’s Responsive Coaching model, developed over a 25 year period, customizes all our
professional development to meet the needs of each individual
teacher and student.
